Shaurya
Founder, CEO

Shaurya founded MDJunior in 2009 as a young social entrepreneur. He graduated from Johns Hopkins University, studying Public Health and Entrepreneurship & Management and continued to evolve our 501(c)3 throughout the last 14 years. Shaurya has been at the healm for over 16 medical missions from Latin America to Asia and grassroots fundraising of $2M+. He is a management consultant from McKinsey & Co and worked in technology / venture capital at Insight Partners & ProduxLabs. His vision is to empower youth and healthcare leaders to bridge the health gap across the world.

Dr. Deepa, M.D.
Chief Mentor

Dr. Deepa is an Assistant Professor in Neonatology at Emory Medicine. In addition her clinical work, she also serves on the Georgia Perinatal Quality collaborative at the GA Dept of Public Health. Dr. Deepa pursues her passion for Global Health as the co-director of EMPHASIS, Neonatology in Tanzania. Dr Deepa is board certified in Pediatrics & Neonatology, has been a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics since 1999, and received an MPH from Emory as well. Dr. Deepa has been a Chief Mentor and Board member with MDJunior since it’s inception in 2009.

Dr. Meena, M.D.
Chief Mentor

Dr. Meena is an MD specializing in Pediatrics and Clinical Research. She graduated Cum Lauda from King Edward Memorial Medical College, completed Pediatrics residency at Jaslok Hospital, and is an accomplished medical scientist researcher and author in vaccine development for AIDS & blood cancers at Emory University and UCLA. Dr. Meena has committed herself to humanitarianism and youth empowerment in healthcare. Her passion is MDJunior’s Global Medical-Mentor Missions. Dr. Meena has been a Chief Mentor with MDJunior since it’s inception in 2009.

Nirmala
Global Mentor

Nirmala Sankaran is a Global Mentor with MDJunior, taking the lead on expanding our impact across the world. She co-founded HeyMath! with the University of Cambridge in 2000 with the mission to improve the quality of Math education. Featured as an example of Globalisation in Education in Thomas L Friedman’s ‘The World is Flat’, HeyMath! has impacted over a million students and 10,000 teachers across Singapore, India, South Africa, the US and Latin America. Prior, Nirmala worked for 10+ years at Citigroup in Mumbai, Bahrain, and London. She was President of the Stanford Seed Transformation Network, a founder community 200+ across South Asia.

Sid
Director of Policy

Sid is a junior at the University of Southern California majoring in Law, History, and Culture. On the Pre-Law track, Sid plans to pursue law to help and give back. A humanitarian, Sid has been on over a dozen global mission trips and started nearly a dozen chapters of MDJunior. He has led service mission trips to India and Puerto Rico. Sid’s passion for serving his community with MDJunior was the foundation for his accomplishments as an Eagle Scout and receiving the President’s Service Leadership Gold Award for 10+ years.

Mahwish
Director, Strategic Partnerships & Donor Management

Mahwish is Pakistani American and was born and raised in Pakistan. She obtained her Master of Public Health in Public Health Informatics from University of Illinois – Chicago, Illinois, and Masters of Science in Health Communications from University of Peshawar – Pakistan. In 2016, Mahwish joined Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, where she works as a Program Manager in Neuroscience Science. Her primary focus is to provide effective leadership and overall management of 4 outpatient large complex, multidisciplinary clinics. In her free time Mahwish enjoys traveling and spending time with her husband and two boys.

Deepika
Director, Mental Health

Deepika is a Psychotherapist based in Mumbai, India. With 6 years of experience, in 2021, she co-founded her own therapy organisation called Dear Oliver Therapy Services, which provides face-to-face and animal-assisted therapy for people with mental illnesses. Alongside, Deepika has a background in mental health research and nonprofits. She has worked with several nonprofits on women's safety and health, cancer awareness, building coping strategies and educating the underprivileged in India. Deepika is passionate about writing and mental health, and through MDJunior, she wishes to fight the health gap by spreading awareness.

Jai
Manager, Chapters

Jai is a freshman at Georgia Tech majoring in Biology on the pre-health track. He started his MDJunior journey in high school, co-founding a chapter in Suwanee, Georgia. Over the course of his leadership, Jai grew the chapter to over 100 members and worked tirelessly with local organizations and hospital systems to mobilize youth to impact health in the community. His altruistic nature and passion for responding to operational challenges with confidence, determination, and focus have led him to recently join the team as the Manager of Chapter Operations. Jai is most excited to expand and execute the mission of MDJunior.

Manyaa
Manager, Medical Missions

Manyaa is a passionate change-maker who led MDJunior chapter operations at her high school in Frisco, Texas for several years. Her favorite experiences were partnering with local organizations and shelters to provide grassroots support via fundraising and donation drives. In her free time, she loves playing the piano, listening to music, and doing individual scientific research. After seeing the impact MDJunior had at the local level in Texas, Manyaa was driven to do more. She recently joined the team as the Manager of Medical Missions and is excited to take the lead on philanthropy for our upcoming campaigns.

Ruhika
Manager, Global Youth Health Summit

Ruhika's passion for healthcare took root during her time with MDJunior at Chattahoochee High School. Her experiences with MDJunior in serving her community and engaging with the medical world fueled her desire to work as a physician. As a Georgia State University graduate with a neuroscience major, she is currently paving her way to medical school. Ruhika is a passionate advocate for the medically underserved and she holds a particular place in her heart for pediatric health, steering much of her research and volunteer initiatives in this direction. As GYHS Manager, she carries these passions and looks forward to creating impactful changes through MDJunior.

Arjun
Manager, Technology

Arjun is a driven, community-oriented leader who started his journey with MDJunior in high school, building a successful chapter in Suwanee, Georgia with hundreds of community service hours. His favorite MDJunior experience was organizing and participating in the senior match program, which involved connecting motivated high school students with elderly individuals from a retirement home to provide companionship. As the Manager of Technology , Arjun is committed to upholding MDJunior's dedication to service and progress and is excited about the upcoming expansion to Georgia Tech, where he will be attending in the fall.

Audrey
National Ambassador

Audrey's journey in global public health started with MDJunior six years ago, as part of the Hong Kong Chapter. She has now completed undergraduate studies from Cornell University in Global and Public Health Sciences, along with Policy Analysis and Management and Health Inequalities. Audrey has a passion for impacting health accessibility and maternal health through public health and policy measures. She was particularly inspired by the work she conducted on the Global Medical Mentor Missions, joining for two of the missions to rural India. Audrey is a National Ambassador and excited to lead our health equity campaigns.

Tarun
Manager, Marketing

Tarun Kilaru is a rising junior at Lambert High School where he has played an active role in the MDJunior chapter's efforts in the community. He started his MDJunior journey early in high school, bringing a significant transformation to the local chapter through his frequent community volunteering, especially at a nearby senior living facility. He enjoys playing basketball, being in nature, and watching sports. Tarun recently joined the team as the Marketing Manager and is excited to inspire change.
